Samaritans
The Bromley and Orpington Branch of the Samaritans is based in Station Road, Orpington. Last year the branch dealt with over 15,000 telephone calls, in addition to 900 visits to the centre from people in need of emotional support. Amazingly, all this good work is carried out entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers!
These wonderful volunteers give confidential telephone support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and also receive face to face visitors between 7am and 9pm. Unfortunately though these long opening hours mean that the utility bills can be quite high i.e. heating, lighting and phone bills.
give2give was delighted to help pay some of these bills with a donation of £1,500. Ted Venables, the Branch Chairman, said that give2give’s donation will be extremely helpful, especially in view of the fact that the Branch is self funding and has to raise all its own running costs without any central or local government funding.
