Cray Kids Furniture Project

Cray Kids Furniture Project, in Cotmandene Crescent St Paul’s Cray, trains young people to transform unwanted wooden furniture into saleable items. Unemployed and sometimes excluded from school, this project offers youngsters a chance to develop new skills and attain City and Guilds qualifications.

The project trains young people between 16-24 and despite having only started in 2003 it has already been recognised for its good work. The project was awarded ‘National Green Champion in Recycled Products’ at the National Green Apple Environment Awards in 2004.

With the aid of a £1,000 donation from give2give the project was able to purchase a computer for its newly refurbished training office. This has enabled a tutor from Orpington college to visit the project three times a week to help the trainees improve their basis  numeracy and literacy skills.
