Ayesha Franks

Ayesha is 21 years old. Since birth she has suffered with hearing and visual impairments, epilepsy, scoliosis and scheurmans disease of the spine. Ayesha also has learning disabilities. To help with her physical development (and enjoyment) Ayesha joined the DSUK ski club in Orpington. Much to her delight skiing is a sport in which she excels, and as a result Ayesha was invited to compete for Britain at the Special Winter Olympics in Pila, Italy in January 2008.

The Special Olympics are a great opportunity for young people like Ayesha to socialise and to meet people of their own age, with similar levels of disability. Therefore, give2give was delighted to pay £1,750 for Ayesha to travel to Pila to compete in the Special Olympics (and for her mum to travel with her too).

Amazingly, Ayesha won two medals at the games, silver and gold! And as a direct result of her trip to Pila, Ayesha’s confidence has grown enormously. She has progressed so far that she now trains regularly with the England Olympic Ski Team.
