About give2give
give2give was established in 2003 by two local residents wanting to make a difference to their community. We’ve grown over the years and are now the leading re-use charity in the Bromley area. Our aim is;
‘to improve the lives of local people across Bromley and the community they live in, not only for today but for generations to come.’
What we do
give2give raises funds from the sale of goods donated by Bromley residents. The funds are used, less our costs, to support people in need across Bromley. We accept donations of saleable furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac which we sell at our two large furniture stores and two charity shops in Petts Wood and Hayes.
By re-using and recycling donated items we can prevent over 500 tons of furniture from going to landfill or for incineration each year in Bromley. We offer a valuable service to the local community by providing an alternative to buying brand new items. This will appeal to many people; those looking for value on a tight budget, those wanting good quality well-made furniture, and those looking for an individual or period piece of furniture too. Every year we re-use some 12,000 items of donated furniture which get a new lease of life in a new home which helps save the environment too.
We offer a large range of furniture at both stores affordable prices starting from as little as £10. A small number of top quality furniture items are offered at higher prices depending on their value, so it’s always worth visiting to see what is in store. We sell other items including new mattresses to go with our beds, re-used white goods ( which are Portable Appliance Tested ) painted furniture and carpet tiles.
Our charity shops also offer a great range of items – clothes, toys, books, bric-a-brac, small electrical and other items. We pride ourselves on attractive displays and we continually change stock according to the seasons.
In June 2011 an experienced Chief Executive, Gail Devries, took over from the founders Jo and Carrie. She is supported by a great team of friendly and helpful staff and volunteers who keep the furniture stores and charity shops open six days a week, Monday to Saturdays. During the summer a new Chair and Trustees were recruited to the Board and are working with Gail and her team to take give2give forward in the next stage of its development.
Giving back to the community
give2give supports the local community by giving back the funds raised through sales of donated goods. This supports services and projects that help people in need in Bromley.
Our community support currently includes;
- Small Grants Fund - local charities and community groups can apply for funding of up to £3,000. In particular we want to help smaller charities and community groups that are often run solely by volunteers and don’t have the time or resources to raise funds for essential equipment or ongoing operating costs. See our Grants page for more details.
- A free holiday scheme – we offer seasonal holidays to families that would benefit from having a break away from home. These are usually available via a referral, see our Holidays page for more details.
- Community Minibus scheme – run in partnership with Bromley Council, this offers the use of the give2give minibus free of charge to local community groups and small charities. For more information see our Minibus page.
- In kind support – we provide furniture and other items free of charge or on loan to community groups and charities, including giving furniture to a local animal rescue centre and providing clothing and props for theatre groups
Working with us
As a community based charity it is important that we get to know and work with local people, charities and community groups. We are developing how we can work more with others and this includes better promotion of our existing community activity, and identifying and setting up some new initiatives with partners.
Keeping our supporters informed
We know you will want to hear how we are using the funds raised through the sale of donated goods and we plan to keep you updated. In future we will do this through our website, through information in our stores and shops, and through a newsletter to our supporters.
